How to Submit Blogger Sitemap to Google Webmasters

nissan viet nam

In this tutorial, we will discuss on how to submit Blogger sitemap to Google Webmaster Central. Submitting your blog's sitemap to Google Webmasters is an important SEO factor. It will let Google know when you are updating your blog, how many URLs are there and many other important things that are happening in your blog. While Google Webmasters will tell you how your blog is performing in Google, who links to your blog and many things that you may need to know.

Blogger Sitemap

Blogger sitemap is included in the default robots.txt file in your blog's root. To see it, type in your browser's address bar "http://your-blog.blogspot.com/robots.txt", you will find:
User-agent: Mediapartners-Google
Disallow:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /search

Sitemap: http://www.simplebloggertutorials.com/feeds/posts/default?orderby=updated
The sitemap is shown in the last line.

Getting Verified in Google Webmasters

First sign in to Google Webmasters using your Google ID. After you have created a new blog via Blogger, you blog will be automatically added to Google Webmasters and also get verified. You can also find options which will ask you to add your blogs.

webmaster add blogger
You can check whether your blog is already added to Webmasters by visiting Google Webmasters Verification site.

However, if you find that your BlogSpot blog is not there, then you can try any one of the below steps to add your blog to Google Webmasters and get verified.

Upload an HTML File to Get your Blogger Blog Verified (Recommended)

You can also now get verified by uploading an HTML file. Actually, you don't have to upload it as it will be automatically uploaded when you create a blog powered by Blogger. Just select "Verification method: Upload an HTML file" and click "Verify" within Webmasters tools.

Verrify by HTML file upload

Add Google Webmasters Verification META Tags to Blogger

To add Blogger sitemap, sign in to Google Webmasters. Click "Add a site". Then get verified by adding the META tags that they will provide. First go to Design > Edit HTML tab and then add the Google Webmasters verification META tag just after <head> in your Blogger template.

Adding META tags

Submit Blogger Sitemap to Google

Click 'Sitemaps' under 'Site configuration' and submit your Blogger's sitemap.

Webmaster settings
Your sitemap will be:

http://your-blog.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?orderby=updated
If you want to add Atom sitemap then it will be:

http://your-blog.blogspot.com/atom.xml
If it is redirected to Feedburner account, you may get an error in Google Webmasters tools while adding Blogger sitemap. For this particular problem, just adding ?redirect=false will solve this problem. So the sitemap address that you should be adding is:

atom.xml?redirect=false

Advance Settings

The default number of URLs in Blogger XML sitemap is 25, so within Webmasters tools you will see there are (25+1) 26 total URLs. But if you have more than 25 posts and less than 100 posts then you can add the following sitemap:

atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=26&max-results=100
For more than 100 posts, add a second sitemap:

atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=101&max-results=100
More than 200 posts repeat above to add a third sitemap:

atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=201&max-results=100
And so on.

Save it and after some time check whether the sitemap is properly added or not.

For Custom Domains

Another problem may arise if you have chosen a preferred domain name for your site in Google Webmasters Sitemaps Tools. For example you may have chosen "http://www.your-blog.com" instead of "http://your-blog.com", then you have to add the preferred domain as a new site to webmasters. Under the settings tab select your preferred domain.

At last, add your blog's URL to Google.

That's it, you have done submitting your Blogger's sitemap to Google Webmasters and search engine too.
